When most of us think of the what we want to create, we begin to make lists of all of the things we need to do to make it happen. There are thousands and thousands of journals, notebooks, spreadsheets dedicated to this concept. But, the lists alone are incomplete.
I recently had lunch with a friend who has been going through a lot – caring for an aging parent while coping with marital challenges and medical issues. Being the problem solver and go-getter that she is, she told me about about what she needed to create, how she needed to do it, and the stress of having to figure it all out on her own. It was a lengthy and exhausting To-Do list.
I could feel the chaos of her energy, her lack of groundedness. I looked at her for a few minutes, listening, feeling her inner turmoil and reminded her,
“Breathe. You don’t have to create this on your own. Trust and Allow.”
Those of us in the spiritual community hear and maybe even say those words often. But what do they really mean?
To me, it’s synonymous with letting go – surrendering expectations and control. It’s a statement of faith and belief in a power greater than me –Universe, Source, God, the Divine; whatever resonates as True to you.
For my entire life I’ve been a planner, an organizer, a problem solver, just like my friend. My family teasingly called me “Sergeant Susie” growing up. They tell stories of a 5 year old me training stray dogs in our yard or barking orders at my big brother to brush his teeth before school.
I never really told them how much those stories and nickname bothered me. It served as evidence to me that no one actually understood me. The belief of being misunderstood created another feeling in me.
I was alone. The only one I could rely on was me.
This feeling persisted throughout my adulthood. All my life, I have painfully struggled through finding solutions, weighing pros and cons. I have spent hours, days, desperately trying to think my way through to the “right” decision – always by myself, which I know now was purely self-inflicted. The pressure I put on myself was incredible.
Enter this spiritual journey and my newfound knowledge that I AM a creator and the Universe is my constant supporter!
Once you truly understand that, once you truly can feel it resonate in your soul — Ah! The relief and the power it brings!
We are not alone. We don’t have to create on our own – problem-solve, make lists, identify options, or consider the what-ifs and possibilities. It is not our job to focus our minds on HOW something will be accomplished.
- Focus on how you want to feel with the outcome. Set that feeling as your intention, as your affirmation.
- Align yourself with the emotion that intention brings. Feel the joy, the relief, the love, and solace that will come with the resolution.
- Simply, Trust the Universe and Allow Perfection to Flow.
And it will flow!
This doesn’t mean completely abandon the lists. I create with them; but I trust the Universe to flow the How’s to me. I wish I could say I never toss and turn at night working on the “perfect” solutions to life’s challenges. Sometimes, I’m still guilty. But I catch myself now.
With pure love and non-judgment, I call myself out for allowing my ego to creep in. I stop and remind myself – Turn everything over to Source. When I do– the results are amazing!
The solutions do not always come in the packages I thought they would, but they come nonetheless. They come with ease and grace, without struggle and conflict. I now trust they will come PERFECTLY and in Divine Timing.
xoxo,
Susan
