BUT ENOUGH ABOUT ME, LET’S TALK ABOUT YOU. WHAT DO YOU THINK OF ME? – Bette Midler
LOL – I love that quote. Ego at its finest. But when I use the word ego, I’m not referring to this inflated sense of self-importance. Instead, I’m referring to the ego part of each of us which is how you identify yourself – your objective, physical world self. Your conscious thoughts and beliefs make up your ego.
I am Susan. I am a mother. I am a spiritual coach and medium.
Those are all egoic statements based on how I identify myself in the physical world.
So what’s the issue?
The more we identify with our physical world selves, the more we become attached to the physical world to define us. The more we care about the clothes we wear, how others see us, whether we’re successful or not based on society’s definition of success. The more attached we are to the physical world, the more it and the people in it impact us. It’s basic survival.
When we’re in our ego, we experience ourselves as imperfect. In our ego, we’re bound by our subconscious beliefs about the world and self. We’re confined by what the conscious mind can conjure. We’re limited.
Have you heard the saying by French philosopher, Pierre Teilhard de Chardin, “We are spiritual beings having a human experience”?
We are more than just our ego. We are more than the sum total of our thoughts, feelings and life experiences, current and past. Most of us have a sense of being something bigger or more infinite than what our five senses offer us on a daily basis.
We are AWARE of ourselves as being part of something greater. We are AWARE of ourselves as spiritual beings.
It’s in this knowingness that we experience ourselves as LIMITLESS.
Then is the goal to transcend your ego? No – not exactly. The ego serves a purpose. It was designed for our security and survival.
We are spiritual beings. And because we are having a human experience, we need the ego.
The ego teaches, offers opportunities, allows us to exist and evolve on this journey we’re taking.
The objective is to find a balance in how we operate. That balance is through awareness…. awareness of yourself as a spiritual being who is perfect, whole and complete and simply having a human experience in this vessel we call the body.
Awareness is the place in which all knowledge is accessible to us. It’s the place from which we experience unconditional love and acceptance. It’s the place from which we should continue to strive to operate.
The path to awareness is different for everyone. Whatever gives you such clarity of self that the a-ha moments begin to collide.
For me it happened through journaling, meditation, and introspection and working closely with a coach. The guidance and accountability was exactly what I needed to keep me on track which is why I created my own Awakening Your Limitless Self program to offer you.
